Inspiration (which literally means “in spirit”) comes from something real, deep within us. It is when we are “in” alignment and connected with our truest selves and spirit, at the same time. In this state, everything flows easily and effortlessly. It doesn’t require things, like hard work, or discipline, nor does it take away energy, etc. In fact, the opposite is true. Being inspired actually gives us energy. Time stands still. And we have a good time! You don’t have to be “motivated” to be inspired. Think about it. When you are gonna do something you’re really fired up about, you fly out of bed. And if we stay in touch with our inspiration, we cannot fail. Again, it’s just not possible. You’ve got the wind at your back. The forces of the universe/God (whatever you’d like to call it) are with you. Pretty nice.

Motivation is entirely different. Motivation is something that comes from “outside” us. Getting motivated requires effort and drains energy. You say things like, “I need to get motivated! What’s wrong with me? C’mon, you lazy bum, get moving!” That’s why if you’re trying to get motivated to lose weight, it doesn’t work, or, at least, for not very long. You have yet to be inspired...not necessarily to lose weight… but to live to your truest life and potential. You are stuck in a self-image that is not authentic, and are programmed to continue to live up to your beliefs and perceived self-worth—and the extra weight is one way your body helps you to do this. Once you address the root of your issues and start living accordingly, the weight will fall off effortlessly. Why? Because the extra weight does not serve your true self. It only served your false sense of self. Of course, the same principle applies to all our self-defeating behaviors.
